Blue-eyed grass is one of our favorite favorite plants. The common name is again misleading (as is often the case with common names) since this plant is not a grass, but an iris. A member of the flowering plant family Iridaceae (iris family) blue-eyed grass is an adorable "mini" iris whose leaves indeed look grass-like. However, once a plant reveals its flowers the similarity to a true grass ends. In our garden it grows in a sunny location to just under a foot in height (30 cm) and tolerates very sandy, dry soil.
