Greg grew up in London, Ontario. After summers-long family camping trips across North America he became a naturalist and a nature photographer. He was further inspired by outings with the McIlwraith Field Naturalists, now Nature London, and six years working as a summer naturalist in Algonquin Provincial Park. He received a BLA in Landscape Architecture, and a master of science in the mycology lab of George Barron, University of Guelph. He obtained a doctorate in systematic mycology from the University of Toronto. Currently he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology, Western University, where he is a popular teacher and graduate student advisor. He lives in London, ON with his wife Nina and their two growing boys.
